On February 14, the 2022 Annual China Game Industry Conference was held in the Guangzhou Hu Li District. At the conference, President Liu Wei of miHoYo stated that the technical accumulation of miHoYo over the past few years was aimed at achieving the industrialization of cultural products. After two years on the market, “Genshin Impact” still maintains high popularity, and a significant part of the reason is due to miHoYo’s increasingly mature industrialization system.

Liu Wei pointed out that the industrialization of cultural products refers to producing high-quality cultural products in large scale and stability, while ensuring the “cultural value, creativity, and innovation.” This means that under the premise of adhering to unified standards, the quality, process, and output can be controlled.
He gave an example, stating that in “Genshin Impact,” miHoYo spent over a year refining every small detail of the character “Yunjen.” However, it is not difficult to produce high-quality characters individually, but it is challenging to achieve the same level of quality for all characters.
“If there were no industrial production line, a game company with a thousand-person development team would find it difficult to produce a large-scale and high-quality work. We usually need to spend at least half a year to update the version, expanding the map and adding new characters.” Liu Wei said, “However, today, miHoYo’s industrial capabilities can maintain the stable update of ‘Genshin Impact’ every six weeks.”
Liu Wei emphasized that if cultural inheritance and innovation are the stars miHoYo has always looked up to, then the exploration of industrialization is the path the company has taken, step by step, to turn its ideals into reality. Once this industrial system is fully connected, it can radiate to the production lines of various cultural products.
He cited the upcoming “Boku No Hero Academia: The Sky Rail Train” as a concrete manifestation of miHoYo’s industrial capabilities. In the game, miHoYo attempts to blend Chinese mythological elements from “The Classic of Mountains and Seas” and “Miscellaneous Records” with the game’s sci-fi theme. In January, the game received approval and is currently in the testing phase, with an expected release soon.
